In some situations, we can't help directly, but that doesn't mean you're out of options.
SSI initial applications
We can’t help with the first application for SSI. These cases rely heavily on your initial SSA interview, where lawyers generally aren't present. Check out our resources [link] to guide you through the process. If the SSA denies your claim, reach back out within 60 days, and a lawyer can help with the appeal.
Stopped, suspended, or terminated benefits
If SSA says you were overpaid or is ending your benefits, we can’t help. If you’ve worked with a lawyer before, contact them first. If not, local legal aid or the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives may be able to help.
Very recent hearings
If you just had a hearing and want to appeal, you’ll likely need a different type of lawyer than we offer at Atticus. We may be able to help if you want to start over and your condition has worsened, or you have new diagnoses.
If you already have a lawyer
We’ll need to confirm a lawyer is no longer representing you before we can step in. If you’re unhappy with your current lawyer, review our guide on what to consider before changing representation.
