What should I expect when working with Atticus?

Working with Atticus

Applying for disability benefits can be long and complex, but we’ll help you through it. We’ll connect you with a trusted lawyer, stick with you through your case, and check in along the way. If you feel stuck or confused, let us know and we’ll give you the clarity and support you need. You can also give us a call or send us a text at 1-800-674-8141.

Working with your law firm

Your lawyer will build a legal strategy tailored to your needs and handle the tough parts—like paperwork, communicating with the SSA, and representing you at your hearing. They’ll fight hard on your behalf and only collect a fee if you win benefits.

Application stages

Here’s more about what you should expect at each stage:

Initial Application: A lawyer will help gather your medical records, answer your questions, and help you fill out your application correctly.

Reconsideration: A lawyer will file your appeals on time and send the SSA any extra information if needed.

Hearing: Your lawyer or representative will prepare you for the hearing and guide you on answering the judge’s questions. They’ll also cross-examine the vocational expert (VE), a government-hired witness who suggests jobs you could do with your medical limits. Your lawyer will anticipate those job suggestions and argue why your condition makes them unrealistic. If needed, they can also submit a supplemental briefing after the hearing.
