There are often extra hurdles to getting approved if you were recently released from prison or jail. Medical treatment in these facilities is never great. Be sure to re-establish care with a medical provider as soon as possible. If you were on benefits previously and incarcerated for less than a year, you may be able to get them reinstated quickly and without an application. Call SSA to ask about your options.
