What else do I get if I qualify for benefits?

Updated over a week ago

In addition to your monthly check and healthcare coverage, many people also get:

Survivors’ Benefits

  • If you pass away, your family may receive a lump sum payment of $255.

  • Qualifying family members may also receive a percentage of your payments each month.

  • In some cases, your work record can help family members qualify for their own disability benefits.

Eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other state-run programs.

  • If you’re eligible for disability benefits, applying for other benefits can become much easier.

Student loan forgiveness

  • If the government determines that you’re permanently disabled, you may qualify to have your federal student loans forgiven through a Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) discharge.
