If you have a medical condition made worse by something that you actively participate in (like drinking with liver disease or smoking with COPD), you are going to have a harder time getting benefits. SSA will evaluate how much of your condition is worsened by your behavior and will try to parse out how much of your condition is because of your actions. Your best bet is to stop entirely (We know. It’s hard). Most lawyers won’t take your case unless you have completely stopped or cut down on the behavior.
